Here’s good news for the glass industry: According to a new report by the American Architectural Manufacturers Association, total housing construction is up 10 percent and will continue strong through 2019. Single family housing will lead the growth — construction in that area will spike another 10 percent — while the boom will be heaviest in the South and Northeast.
The new housing demand drove up the demand
for prime windows, which grew 3 percent last year. As the housing recovery continues, windows are forecast to grow 8 percent through 2019. The demand for remodeling and replacement windows grew just under 2 percent last year, but they too will grow, albeit modestly, in coming years due to new home sale growth.
New construction skylights grew 10 percent last year replacement skylights were up percent.
Apart from single family homes, non-residential construction had a 6 percent growth rate last year compared to the previous year. That rate is expected to be the same in 2017.
The AAMA’s 2016/2017 U.S. Industry Statistical Review and Forecast was released in late April.
