One Year in Fernwald

A+W Software GmbH Positively Reflects on Its Experience

Published on 15 August 2024

Just over a year ago, A+W Software GmbH moved its headquarters to Fernwald. It's time to reflect on the substantial investments the company has made to create a modern working environment.

State-of-the-Art Facilities for Optimal Working Conditions

The building, dating back to the 1990s, was initially not suited for the needs of a modern software company. Renovations were imperative. The most significant changes were made to the interior spaces. New partitions restructured office areas and thanks to modern soundproofing techniques, created noticeably quieter workspaces. This not only enhanced the working atmosphere but also improved employees' ability to concentrate.

"In redesigning our new premises, we proceeded with a clear concept," explains Dennis Tiegs, COO of A+W Clarity. "It is very important to us that collaboration within the company is strengthened. Incorporating new work approaches and employee feedback into the design of the offices has shaped their current appearance. These structural measures are an investment in the future and in our team."

Additionally, technology upgrades have streamlined meetings, making them smoother and more effective – a significant benefit especially for collaboration between international teams.

A particularly notable feature is the new creative area. Across approximately 100 square meters, various seating arrangements and digital whiteboards invite both large and small groups for creative exchange and brainstorming.

"With the design of our creative area, we've broken away from traditional meeting approaches. Simply getting up, moving around, changing positions – it sparks new ideas. We interact differently now with each other and with the topics we tackle," remarks René Befort from A+W Cantor R&D.

Team meetings can now effortlessly accommodate up to 20 participants whether onsite or in a hybrid setting. Teams test creative techniques experiencing collaboration in new ways.

Inviting Outdoor Areas and Parking Facilities

Changes are evident even outside. A spacious terrace offers employees the chance to spend their lunch breaks outdoors or even work outside – a popular choice in good weather. Shortly after moving in, it became clear that additional parking was needed. Early in 2024, an extra employee parking lot was constructed on-site. Recently, charging options for e-bikes have also been added, taking a considerable step towards sustainability and supporting environmentally conscious mobility of employees.

Innovation & Flexibility: Flex Desks and Hybrid Working

A+W has been supporting hybrid working arrangements for several years now. The introduction of a desk-sharing system has brought even greater flexibility allowing employees to easily switch between home office and on-site work. With this model, A+W positions itself as a forward-thinking employer addressing individual needs of its workforce.

Looking Ahead

Overall, reflection on one year at Fernwald is positive. The new headquarter not only provides top-notch working conditions but also an inspiring environment where employees feel comfortable and can realize their full potential

— a successful investment into the future that will continue to bear fruit in the coming years.

"It was a good decision to leave our old location in Pohlheim; it no longer suited us or our way of working," conclude Tiegs and Befort.
