Feds: Glass prices remain flat in June

Newly released data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows that the prices of materials used in the glass and glazing industries were flat last month. According the Producer Price Index (PPI), published by BLS, glass materials were unchanged following a slight decrease in May and none in April.

However, the prices from these last few months were 0.4 percent higher compared to the same time last year.

The PPI for the flat glass industry was also flat in June, compared to one month earlier. Yet again, flat glass prices are 1.6 percent higher from June 2016.

Where are the price increases? In the fabricated structural metal product sector — which includes glazing systems. Prices ticked up 0.4 percent in June, following 0.6 percent in May; in total, prices have jumped 2.3 percent from last year.

July data is set for release Aug. 10.
